Terms & Conditions

  • The use of the lakes and lakeside is done is done so entirely at your own risk.
  • Participants must be able to swim 200m unaided and able to confidently tread water.
  • Children over the age of 12 are permitted to swim during the summer swim calendar only but MUST be competent swimmers and always supervised by an adult in the water. Participants under the age of 18 are not permitted to ‘winter swim’.
  • You must be medically fit and well to attend a session. Please inform Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure of any injuries or health conditions/allergies that may affect you prior to a session.
  • Please be respectful to ALL life in our lake and on our land and do not damage any flora or fauna.
  • Please keep your distance from any nesting birds or occupied habitats.
  • Please use designated entry and exit points, unless in an emergency. In a lake evacuation, the whistle will be blown consecutively.
  • No jumping or diving is permitted at any time.
  • Tow floats are to be worn at all times whilst swimming.
  • In order to protect the ecosystem of the lake, please remove all chemical products such as sunscreen, oils and moisturiser. Please only wear ‘water safe’ suncream.
  • All sessions and attendances must be in accordance with the Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure timetable only.
  • All litter must be taken home with you.
  • It is strongly advised to remove contact lenses before entering the lake.
  • No alcohol or drugs should be used onsite or prior to your visit.
  • No self-lit fires.
  • Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure reserves the right to cancel a session at any time and cease access to any guest.
  • All lakeside visitors, including those who are not swimming, must purchase a ticket. For the comfort and privacy of those using the lake, we do not allow anyone to ‘have a look around’.
  • No dogs.
  • Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure, reserve the right to remove any guest from a session.
  • During winter swim months, we ask that swimmers remain on site until 30 minutes after their swim to avoid unexpected after-drop. Any guest who is concerned about their temperature, or that of a fellow swimmer please speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
  • Bio security is of the highest importance and swimmers have a responsibility to protect this as a user of the lake. Please ensure all swim kit is washed thoroughly in-between swims and only use clean equipment and swimwear.
  • Participants must report any injury / accident to a member of staff immediately.
  • I accept that in the event of requiring medical attention Riverlands Leisure takes no responsibility for the treatment provided for any unreported existing condition which increases the risk of a medical emergency.
  • I acknowledge that Riverlands Leisure has relied on this statement (in its entirety) in accepting my participation in Escape to the Lake swim sessions and that if I was unable or unwilling to agree to all the matters set out above in this statement of responsibility Riverlands Leisure would not allow me to participate. All statements of fact are true.

Terms & Conditions of Booking

  • The use of the lakes and lakeside is done is done so entirely at your own risk.
  • I understand and agree, on behalf of myself, my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, that my participation in any swim or lakeside activity at Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure swimming activity or lakeside activity of any kind and my signature means that:
  • I fully understand and acknowledge that there are significant inherent risks involved with open water swimming at Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure, including the serious risk of death, illness or injury associated with swimming generally, and cold-water swimming in particular.
  • I acknowledge and accept these risks and all other risks associated with participation of swimming in the lakes – even if arising from negligence or gross negligence, including any worsening of injuries caused by negligent first aid operations or procedures, Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure and any persons associated therewith or participating therein.
  • I understand that all applicable rules for participation must be followed at all times and the sole responsibility for my safety remains with me. Including, but not limited to, my physical and emotional preparation and fitness.
  • I will immediately remove myself from the lake and notify the nearest member of staff if at any time I sense or observe any unusual hazards or unsafe conditions or if I feel that I have experienced any deterioration of my physical, emotional, or mental condition, which might render me unfit for continued swimming.
  • I give a full release and waiver of liability and all claims that I have or may have in the future against Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure or the owners of Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure and any relatives or relation thereof, as well as any volunteering participating with any Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure swimming events, its directors, officers, employees, guides, representative, advertisers, other participants, sponsors, the venue at which the programme is held and its directors, officers, employees, guides and representatives (collectively known as the “releases”), from all liability for any loss, damage injury or expense that I may suffer as a result from my use of, or my presence at Escape to the Lake / Riverlands Leisure facilities, due to any cause whatsoever, including negligence and gross negligence, aggravation of injury or aggravation of injuries caused by negligent first aid operations or procedures of the programme organiser and any persons associated therewith participating therein; breach of contract, or breach of any statutory or other duty of care, including any duty or care owed under the occupiers liability act or any other relevant statutes, on the part of the releases.
  • I agree not to sue the releases for any loss, injury, cost or damages of any form or type, however caused or arising, and whether directly or indirectly from my participation in the event and:
  • I agree to indemnify, and to save and hold harmless the releases, and each of them, from any litigation expense, legal fees, liability, damage, award or cost, of any form or type whatsoever, they may incur due to any claim made against them or any one of them whether the claim is based o the negligence or gross negligence of the releases or otherwise.
  • I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the releases or others, and assume the full responsibility for my participation; and:
  • I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release and hold harmless Escape to the Lake / Riverlands, their coaches, volunteers, and/or employees, other participants, sponsoring agents, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the event (“RELEASEES”), with respect to any and all injury, illness, disability, death or loss or damage to persons and property, whether arising from negligence of the releases of otherwise, to fullest extent permitted by the law.
  • I have read this release of liability and assumption of risk agreement, fully understand its terms, understand I have given up substantial rights by signing it, and sign it freely and voluntarily without any inducement.
  • By signing or adding my name in print, I am confirming I have read, understood and agree with all aspects of this document and its general intent and that I am giving up certain substantial legal rights including the right to sue.
  • By proceeding with payment, all participants agree in respect of open water swimming to the terms of booking, declarations, safety code, conduct and waiver disclaimer detailed above.
